Arbonne Product Review

was recently sent a package of samples to review from a lovely Arbonne representative. I'll post all of her information at the end of the post for those who maybe interested in purchasing products.

Ok, let's get into it! The samples included everything from tinted moisturizer, highlighter, skin creams, serums, and so much more!

I was really interested in trying out the skin care line mostly, because Arbonne is a company that prides themselves on being healthy, botanically based and inspired by nature. They've been around since 1975, and have a pretty good track record, so that made it even sweeter.

Re9 Advanced aging skincare line:

Below are the samples including day cream, facial cleanser, moisturizer, corrective eye cream, restorative day cream, and skin serum.

It took me awhile to complete the full  review, because I wanted to make sure I made full use of each product to see of there was any difference from my normal day to day routine. I don't usually shy away from my regimen, but I'm glad I did. The restorative eye cream, serum, and moisturizer were the standouts. I noticed that after 3 days of using the products my skin felt super clean and tight! Having dry skin is a difficulty, because I often find myself saying less is more to keep from drying out. However, with the replenish finish of the moisturizer and serum, I felt so refreshed. I shed a tear when my samples were gone.

Lip Polishes

The lip polishes came in this fold out envelope, inside were the cutest tiny packages with the name and finish of each lippie.

POSH: A glossy, go-to pink.

RAISIN: Reminded me more of a beautiful dark wine.

BROWN SUGAR: The perfect nude!

You all know that I'm not a big fan of uber glossy lips, but these were cool because of the thickness. It's definitely not something you would have to keep applying every 5 minutes. Oh, and they smell really good, sort of like a laffy taffy hehe. As previously mentioned, there was a sheer glow highlighter and tinted moisturizer as well, but they were much too light for my complexion so I wouldn't be able to give a truthful review. Overall, I like the line. I will defintely be purchasing soon! I'm all about good skin care, and from what I've seen, Arbonne is worth it!

Closet Crush.

If there's one thing I love, it's a well dressed woman. The way you carry yourself introduces who you are long before one word is spoken. I'll be featuring a new person each week whose style I admire. First up, meet the beautiful Maggie from South Florida. I fell in love with her the moment I stumbled upon her Instagram page. Let's take a perk into this effortlessly dope, closet rich, style queen's thought process.

1. What's the best accessory that can spice up any ensemble?

For me, It's always a Louis Vuitton scarf. They are so durable, worth the investment and stylish. I just love them. I own a ton, both men's and women's.

2. How would you describe your personal style?

I'm 37 and I've been down many style avenues. Some pretty bad. I've learned what works for my body type and colors that work for my skin tone. So I would have to say my style is comfortable.

3. It's noticeable that you mix extremely high end with street savvy pieces, is this a conscious decision?

No, it's not conscious. I like what I like. Whether it's something I picked up from forever21 with my 17 year old daughter or from a piece that I've stalked at Chanel.

4. What are three staples that every woman's closet should have?

A white shirt, a great pair of fitting jeans and a Louis Vuitton scarf.

5. Who is your favorite designer?

In a perfect world I would only wear Gareth Pugh.

6. In ode to your Instagram handle, what does it mean In your words to be "closet rich"?

To have nicer things that your budget can't afford.

7.Where do you gain most of your inspiration?

I do not look at celebrity for my style ideas. I love to see what everyday girls are doing and pull from that ... and instagram is just a visual viagra. These girls come hard.

8. Lastly, most ladies dream of owning a Chanel bag one day, but you have several! Which is your favorite?

My favorite is the army green patent jumbo flap my husband gifted me for Mothers Day one year. It was a complete surprise. It took me 2 weeks to even carry it. All I could think about was gifting it to my daughter one day. It's just so iconic.

Can I just say what I admire most about Maggie is that she is a grown woman that you can tell dresses for herself, and not everyone else. The most awesome quality to possess is originality. Make sure you follow her on Instagram: @closetrich77

Revlon Skinlights

was ecstatic when I found out that Revlon would be relaunching their line of highlighting creams called Photoready Skinlights. With spring/summer being around the corner, we're all searching for that amazing glow. On my latest trip to Walmart, I came across these beauties, and remembered they were on my "must have" list. They come in 4 accommodating shades for most complexions. And at $10.97 a pop, I snagged peach light and bronze.

Below are swatches with and without flash. As you can see, the colors are very brilliant. Without the flash, I was in a pretty dark setting, so these swatches aren't as true to life as possible. However, I have a very caramel/bronze complexion, so it's not far off.

The packaging is super cute and sleek for traveling, or just the chick on the go who likes to reapply throughout the day.

Now let's be clear, a little goes a tremendously long way. The skin lights are made to do just as they say, which is light up areas of your face. This is not a product to use all over, unless you want to look like a glowing, sparkly pumpkin.
I mixed the peach light and the bronze in with my Maybelline bb cream for a dewy effect. I was very pleased with the outcome. However, if you are prone to oily skin this isn't an item that I would hands down recommend.

Overall, I do like the product. It can get a little messy if you squeeze more than a little out of the tube. The finish is quite pretty with just enough to highlight the areas of your choice. I can even see wearing this with just concealer for one of those days when I need to pop without the intensity of foundation.

Have any of you ladies tried this product?

Coffee Break: Maria Caraballos

Breaking into the beauty industry isn't exactly the easiest task, but it doesn't have to be super tough if you're willing to put in the work. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with a professional makeup guru, who has worked with an array of clients, even in particular, of my favorite famous faces. Meet Maria Caraballos, a self taught, amazing makeup artist that was willing to dish tips, product advice, and a glance into her daily professional life for us here at ALL THE RAGE.

On her start as a makeup artist:

I have been doing makeup on my friends and family for about 12 years. I was nowhere near good but it was something I was really interested in. October 2012 was when I decided to make the first step into what I call now my profession. I started offering free makeup applications as long as they allowed me to take before and after pictures and post them on social media sites; they also had to agree to let me do whatever look I desired. Doing so helped me create my portfolio, which I needed in order to apply at Mac. My friend Oscar got me the interview with Mac, and with my talent, I got the position as a freelancer. I started working at Mac in December 2012, and that’s when I feel my career really began in the beauty world.

On whether formal education is needed:

I am a self-taught makeup artist. I have not taken any courses or lessons from anyone or any school. I believe if you have the passion and/or the talent, then there is no need to pay thousands of dollars to become something that is God given and ordained. To be a makeup artist, you do not need a specific license like hairstylist do, however, being self-taught can cause issues, as well. For instance, at a beauty school, they will teach you how to correctly sanitize your makeup tools, brushes, and makeup prior to a makeup application. Some self-taught mua do not know how to properly sanitize their items, which can cause some serious infections. That’s when Mac steps in, being a freelancer there, I was able to learn and make it a habit to clean and sanitize all my tools, before and after the application.

On the essentials to building a kit:

When I first started my kit, my main priority was to have foundations to match any skin tone. Then, I invested in brushes. You can have expensive makeup but if you re not using the right brushes or good brushes, it will just not work for you. Another important item that is a must have is different eyebrow pencil/powder shades. Now a days, eyebrows are an epidemic. You cannot use the same eyebrow shade on a blonde haired girl and expect it to look good on a girl who has black hair. I also bought a lot of eyeshadows to compliment any skin tone. After that, Ipurchased what ever else was needed.

What are the beauty trends for Spring 2014?

SKIN!!!!!! Skin is in, my friend. Dewy, glowy skin is what you will be catching celebrities wearing. Au Naturale is another trend. Apply some tinted moisturizer or BB cream, a little bit of mascara, light eyebrows with a tintedlipgloss and call it a day. For something more bold. Orange and coral is always a safe color to use during the spring. Apply a high moisturizing foundation that will give you that dewy skin, apply highlighter on cheekbones and cheeks to give you that glow and add a bold orange lip.

On the one item in her kit that's irreplaceable:

Tough question, I feel like I have a lot of prized possessions in my kit, but the most would probably be my highlight and contour kit from Anastasia Beverly hills. No matter what skin tone or skin type you have, I can use that kit on you and make it look like it was made just for you.

Do you have a signature style?

A cat eye, for sure. I am already known for that pointy eyeliner. I feel as if I look tired without it. No matter what technique I use on my eyes, I always have to have my cat eyeliner.

What's the most sought out look that your clients request?

OMG! Yes!! If I had a penny for every time a client showed me a picture of Kim Kardashian, I would be a millionaire. Its either the smokey eye like her or the natural neutral colors like her. Either way, it is always a picture of her. Which I don’t blame them, her makeup is always on point.

You've been responsible for some of Evelyn Lozada's most stunning looks, do you have a go-to method when working with her?

Working with Evelyn Lozada has been amazing. For starters, she has the best features and amazing skin. It is definitely not hard to make her pretty. But that woman loves her some glitter and a b*t**ed out eyeliner, as she would say. But also, it really depends on what the shoot is for, if it is an outside interview and its during the day, we keep it simple and cute. I always judge off of what the shoot is for.

Evelyn's skin is always flawless and glowing, any secrets to share?

I use a mixture of Vida Lux Cosmetics, which is her cosmetics line; and I alsouse some Mac products. On her skin, I use Mac “Matchmaster” foundation, which helps absorb the oils throughout the day, for the glowy look, I use Macs Highlighter in “soft and gentle” and I apply that on all the areas of her face where the light hits to create that glow. I use all of her eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks and lipglosses

Any last words for budding artists?

Yes, I do. I know it sounds so cliché but, honestly, don’t give up. Watch youtubevideos, practice on yourself first, like, all the time, then once you get the hang of the technique, practice on others who have different features than you. Keep at it; if it’s your passion to become a makeup artist then don’t stop until you feel accomplished. But, always remember BE YOUR OWN BIGGEST FAN!

New foundation x Ruby woo dupe

If there's ONE thing in the beauty world that I live for, it's defintely new foundation. And my second fave is when I can purchase it with a $10 budget. For the last few months I've been ranting and raving about Revlon's Colorstay line. It's still awesome, and I love it! However, this time around I have found the next best thing to perfection, whether it's drugstore or department brand wise.

............

Loreal's "Healthy luminous" foundation!
I cannot even begin to say how amazing this liquid love feels on my face. First off, I wrote Loreal off years ago. I was a true match girl for while, but I noticed how cakey and dry my skin began to look when using it. Needless to say, I never planned on using their brand for coverage again.

The new luminous line is made for the gal who loves lightweight, dewy makeup. I literally felt as if the most I had on my face was BB cream, or some sort of tinted moisturizer. It's also equipped with SPF 20 to fight the sun rays off, and protect your skin. Win/win. I purchased it for $9.99 at my local Wal-Mart. There were so many shades, so I'm sure everyone would be able to find a match.

Below are a few shots I complied of myself  (untouched)...

Last but not least, I may have found a great alternative for my ladies who like the idea of M.A.C's Ruby Woo, but can't stand the retro matte finish. I'm wearing Wet n Wild's Stoplight Red. It's damn near identical if you ask me. I applied red cherry lip liner by Jordana underneath so that my lipstick would not slide. And there you have it. A great dupe for only $1.99 and some change. Can't beat it!

Overall,

can't find a bad thing to say about these products if I tried really hard. My skin is glowing, and my lips are on point.

New faves!!!!

Mini Makeover.

My mom is absolutely the most amazing 63 year old woman out there. She's been through more than most, and is also stronger than most. Go figure! I get my love of makeup from her, so it was shocking when she came to ME for advice. Apparently, she believed her foundation was drying her skin out, and leaving an ashy finish. We made a deal that I'd be able to give her a mini makeover without her trying to look in the mirror every two minutes for critiquing.

BEFORE:

Products used:

- After she freshly washed her face, I proceeded to use Ponds Moisturizer to make sure the skin was hydrated.

- applied Revlon's Colorstay concealer under the eyes to minimize puffiness.

- Using a Sonia Kashuk angled foundation brush, I slowly blended in the Repairwear laser focus foundation in until I was satisfied with the outcome.

-E.L.F's brow powder came in really handy, because my mom lost and barely gained her brows back after Chemo years ago.

- From there, I used Ben Nye's amazingly effective Matte Finishing Spray.

-To finish up, I used Ben Nye's lumineer eyeshadow on the base lid, and blended in a coffee shade from a now sold out kohls 24 shade palette. Applied a bit of Maybelline Kohl liner to the bottom line, and used M.A.C's dazzle mascara to add a fresh, yet natural effect.

- Instead of setting her look with powder, I wanted to keep the dewy look. I actually used the E.L.F bronzer in peach as a highlighter under the eye area/around the cheeks. It really works like a charm to illuminate. We finished by mixing NYX matte lip cream and Wet & Wild's nude lippie in #901.

After:

I showed mom that with the correct applications and products, that it indeed was NOT her foundation. Her skin wasn't being hydrated enough. She was happy! My daughter even photobombed...

I am NOT a makeup artist, so don't go too hard on me. This was my first time applying makeup to anyone else, but now I'm completely excited for more!

Forever 21's premium makeup line

In the words of Mr. West: "Rock Forever 21, but just turned thirty." Well, it looks like there maybe another reason for ladies of all ages to continue shopping at the beloved chain store. Forever 21 has released a premium cosmetic line that is set to be a complete upgrade from the random makeup you were once able to snag from under a table on your way to the checkout counter.

The line includes everything from foundation, primer, highlighter, lipstick, gloss, and even brushes. The products are ranged from $4.80 - $14.80. There's definitely something for everyone. Is not too pricey, but hopefully the higher priced items will be well worth it.  Overall, I think this is a good look for the store to make beauty products more accessible, and marketable since makeup is just as much a part of pulling together a fashion look. Why not be able to get that in a one stop shop?  I will definitely be trying out the lip & cheek stain, liquid highlighter, mascara, and the peachy blush to review.

What do you dolls think?
Will you be purchasing?

Let me know, I'd love to hear from you!

Maybelline has an amazing line of lipsticks they've coined as the "vivid" collection. If you're a gal who enjoys bright, vibrant colors that make every complexion pop, then you've reached the right place. Recently, one of my readers requested that I find a low priced, orange lipstick that works for brown girls. I'm a firm believer in the fact that there's a shade out there for everyone. You just have to find out what works the best. It's all about feeling confident when it comes to makeup. Own it.

Maybelline vivid in "Electric Orange" is available at your nearest drugstore for around $8.00 bucks a pop.

I instantly fell in love with this lipstick the moment I put it on. It glides on so smooth, and had my lips feeling so juicy without the uber - sometimes messy, overly glossy effect. I'm only wearing lashes and bronzer, and something about this lipstick  makes that perfectly ok. It's daring yet subtle if that makes sense. It's powering, without taking over the entire look.

Perfecto!

I give this baby a thumbs all the way up.

Custom Jewerly by Tai Bella

love supporting small businesses, creative people, and women on the rise. It's so easy to purchase items from my favorite stores, and put money into already thriving companies. Instead, I'd rather have an item in my collection that I know everyone won't have, because it's custom made to fit the specific need and want of each client. That's dope.

@TaiBella (Instagram handle) is a jewelry designer with a bright future ahead. She has a niche for bringing life to door knocker style earrings, and I am absolutely in love with her method. So much that when I saw these babies I had to immediately purchase.

The earrings were $20.00 including shipping. Might I add, I received my package within two days from the afternoon I ordered. She's quick, efficient, and very professional.

(Of course, custom orders take longer).
